I wrote a serie of articles about Swedish noble houses with Swedish flags for Svenska Heraldiska Föreningens magazine Vapenbilden and also for Svenska Heraldiska Föreningens homepage. At this page I show list of houses in Sweden and in Finland with Swedish flags on the shield or as a crest or as mantling.
The reasons why I wrote the Swedish flag in coat of arms articles was that in Vapenbilden there was articles about Swedish flags and I looked at the different House Uggla and House Trolle coat of arms and baron Uggla and af Trolle has Swedish flags so I started to search of other houses with coat of arm by manual browsing through a CD with images of all swedish nobles houses and I also whent throught Finlands Riddarhus homepage and also Ointroducerad Adel member list and created articles since Swedish flags at coat of arms was not mentioned at all in other Vapenbilden articles.
The Swedish flag is today a symbol for the Swedish nation but when almost all houses was ennobled, the Swedish flag represented only the Swedish naval forces and flags where not used on land until Oskar II raised the flag in a castle in Stockholm 1872. Before that banners where used at land. Therefore almost all coat of arms with Swedish flags are linked to naval forces.
The first Swedish flags used is a the Finnish county "Egentliga Finlands" coat of arms. I use no images here for copyright reasons and I use no blazon since I can not blazon in english.
I have written other articles for Svenska Heraldiska Föreningen as well, for example Monograms in coat of arms, House Trolles coat of arms and wheat sheaf ("garb" in heraldy terms) used in coat arms.
Eduardo Pazikas drawed this image of Baron Uggla coat of arms according to my directives. He did it in high resolution pdf format. The image was created for use on an article for Svenska Heraldiska Föreningens homepage but ended up in Svenska Heraldiska Föreningen magazine Vapenbilden instead and the editor replaced this image into Riddarhusets version so I recycle it here.
